About Us

Number One Resource is the brainchild of Paul and Lynne Whitaker.

Paul and Lynne have been involved in education and management since 1976.
Teambuilding and training since 1980, the Number One Resource team have dedicated themselves to helping individuals and teams fulfill their true potential.

Through providing fun, practical and interactive programmes Number One Resource has helped numerous individuals and companies provide, and be part of, a productive, positive and happy workplace.

Paul has an honours degree in education and Lynne is a graduate of Otago School of Physical Education and has a Teaching Diploma & Trained Teachers Certificate.

Between them they have worked in every conceivable type of institution and have utilised this considerable knowledge and expertise to benefit the lives and professional development of numerous groups and individuals.

Their philosophy is simple - provide and environment that is both physically and emotionally safe, throw in copious amounts of fun and you have the perfect situation within which people and organisations can develop and grow. All of their programmes and events are specifically designed to meet the needs of individual groups, and the people within that group, with a view to developing or improving teamwork. Over recent years Paul and Lynne have spent a considerable amount of time working with a whole range of organisations to help develop effective teams. Their programmes and events are essentially practical in nature but are not tests of physical fitness or strength. The only prerequisite for one of their programmes or events is a sense of humour, an open mind and a willingness to have a go.

But Paul is certainly not just an educationalist. Throughout a colourful life he has worked on the ‘shop floor’ at a variety of physical jobs, been a security guard and ‘doorman’ and had a fleeting fling with professional sport. More recently he has had hands on experience in a variety of management roles for both profit and not-for-profit organizations. He is a member of both the New Zealand Association of Training and Development and the New Zealand Institute of Management. He is also Chairman of the Kaimai Outdoor Centre Incorporated Society and the Beyond the Couch Charitable Trust.

Lynne has moved from secondary PE teaching, into Outdoor Pursuits Instructing, onto Auckland University of Technology where as a senior lecturer she set up their Diploma in Outdoor Recreation Leadership, developing it into the premier outdoor leadership course in New Zealand. From there it was to Bop Polytechnic then onto their own business managing 6 of Tauranga City Councils indoor sports and recreation facilities on contract and providing corporate training, event management and team building. Lynne has also had governance rolls on national sports bodies and continues to play competitive hockey at master's level for her province and New Zealand.

Number One Resource can provide any type of event for any length of time for any type of group. These can be ice-breakers, energisers, motivational, teambuilding, etc.. These can be ‘just for fun’ or powerful experiential training programmes.

Through their wide range of associates Number One Resource can also offer more formal business training programmes including sales training, customer service, strategic planning, time and stress management, communication, etc, etc...

Number One Resource can also provide pure entertainment packages including musicians, bands, comedians, hosts, speakers, quizzes, etc...
