What is it - This is a treasure hunt where the participants have to utilise written information given to them in order to find the clues that will lead them to the Treasure. This exercise requires the group to choose a leader(s). The leader(s) role is to interpret the information and then allocate the human resources in the most functional way.
What you get out of it -It encourages the group to look at each person's strengths and allocate tasks accordingly. This can be used to reinforce leadership training, best use of human resources, negotiation skills, and communication skills.
Ideal Location -A reasonably large area with a variety of terrain and vegetation within which clues and tasks can be hidden. Northridge Country Lodge, Okoroire Hotel, The Domain Auckland, Mt Eden, Cornwell Park are just some examples.
Ideal numbers - Minimum 10.
Duration -This can vary between 2 hours and 1 full day. If you want to reinforce previous training say leadership, then a full day is ideal.
More Info - This is a self directed group initiative exercise. The team have to find the locked chest and retrieve the treasure in a specified time but how they achieve this is up to them. They will face a variety of options and some hard decisions will have to be made. The whole group work together on this exercise, although it can also be used as a competition between smaller teams. It consists of a combination of physical and cognitive exercises plus some tests of skill and courage. Anything can be included in this option including adventure activities and team challenges. This option has something for everyone.
Depending on how they organise themselves, the team may not be physically together throughout this exercise as human resources may have to be dissipated in order for the team to be more effective and efficient.
